A Drunkard on the way:
Once it happened that Janardan and his father were going to the fair at Talode. They took their horse with them. They were riding on the horse simultaneously. There was a middle aged drunkard sitting near the water place near the Chandsaili Ghat. He asked for tobacco. Mr. Poharya never used tobacco so he did not have it. The drunkard got angry on Mr. Poharya. He ran after the horse and stroke with a stick on the back of Mr. Poharya. He fell down from the horse. Little Janardan was crying but he tried to rescue his father from the clutches of the person. He was also beaten by the bad man. The farmers nearby ran towards the situation. They freed them from the anger of the drunkard. Mr. Poharya had to give one rupee to the drunkard then he allowed going. The man was the resident of one of the padas of Shelkui. The Adivasis coming from the Satpuda ranges always took shelter in the church ground. That was solving their accommodation problem. Again it was a safety place because there was a dense forest around the city. The Hijade i.e. the impotent persons used to exploit these adivasi people. They demanded money threatening them to apply some black lubricant on the bare buttock of the Adivasi. Later on Janardan raised his voice against this unjust tradition.
